Roots Food x The Bagel Co.
Match made in foodie heaven
The CSE alumni startup, Roots Food, is a supplier of the new and natural Philippine superfood, Moringa, which contains more than 90 nutrients, is naturally high in protein and fiber, and low in sodium. The product is available in powder and flakes, which makes it easy to use in food and beverages; making it easier to get your daily dose of protein and fibers. Roots Food was matched with the national bagel chain, The Bagel Co., as the startup and established company saw great potential in sharing unique business knowledge with each other.
The CEO and Founder of The Bagel Co., Birthe Thygesen, launched her own bagel shop 18 years ago, and are now running 13 shops all over Denmark. Birthe chose to become a part of the SPININ program to meet young, enthusiastic entrepreneurs, who could provide her with new inspiration for her business, and who she could share her business experience with. Roots Food would, the other way around, provide The Bagel Co with feedback on the company’s marketing and social media strategies.
“Birthe has unique, practical experience, and a network, which she happily shares with us. We are very pleased to receive insights into production, her supply chain, and the Danish food industry. At the same time, she has a sparkly, outgoing personality, which rubs off and inspire you to be a positive entrepreneur, like her” – Jacqueline Hansen (CEO, Roots Food)
Collaborative launch of new products
The SPININ collaboration between The Bagel Co. and Roots Food has been active for three months, and has resulted in the launch of a new juice and muffins in The Bagel and Co. shop in ILLUM Rooftop. Roots Food and The Bagel Co. will maintain a continuous dialogue, and therefore, the sparring and creativity will naturally develop over the fall.
"When we launched the bagel, the bun with a hole in, we were the first in the market in Denmark, and people had to get to know a new product. This is the reason, I find it interesting to test out a new product, because I have been in their shoes. But their Moringa product is so unique and fantastic, so I very much look forward to the launch” – Birthe Thygesen (CEO, The Bagel Co.)

Startup revolutionizes the horse industry
The ambitious CSE startup, Hooves, wants to revolutionize the horse industry, by taking the sport to the next level, as Hooves matches horse-owners, who are looking for part-time riders, with riders, who are looking for a part-time horse. The startup challenges the expensive sport, by allowing parties to share costs and time consumption, while ensuring security and transparency through its online contract builder and automated online payment.
The two founders, Suvi and Alina, are both students at Copenhagen Business School, from where they met each other, and joined forces to found a startup, based on their passion for horses. From Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship, the founders were accepted to take internship in the startup, while receiving ECTS credits, to put theory into practice.
Match based on mutual passion
Through the SPININ program, Hooves were matched with the CSE mentor Lisbet Andersen, a highly experienced lawyer, who shares the founders’ personal interest in the horse industry. Lisbet chose to become a part of the program with the objectives to obtain knowledge, and inspiration, from the Danish startup environment, increase her professional network, and maintain her association with Copenhagen Business School, from where she graduated.
"As a lawyer, I am in contact with many companies, and some of them are startups; therefore, I would like to strengthen my knowledge in this particular field” (Lisbet Andersen, aumento).
The mentor coaching has been put into practice through mentor sessions, where Lisbet’s sharing of knowledge within intellectual property rights, shareholder agreements, and corporate structures in startups, have contributed to a unique and insightful learning experience for the startup. While the mentor altruistically has shared professional knowledge with startup, the startup has provided the mentor with insights into the Danish startup environment.

Syqle x Mentor Susanne Kandrup
Common interests as the center of collaboration
The CSE startup, SYQLE, has a mission to provide young adults and high school students with tools that empower them to make better choices in their lives. SYQLE organizes workshops for young adults that revolves around choosing the right education, job, or career path. In the SPININ program, SYQLE was matched with an industry mentor, Susanne Kandrup, from the company LimeGuild; an experienced business owner and professional within the field of coaching and mentoring.
“It is important for me to support the startup environment in Denmark and contribute with the experiences I have had with starting my own company” (Susanne Kandrup, Partner, LimeGuild).
The match was based on SYQLE and Susanne’s shared interests in coaching and workshops. SYQLE’s vision was to get in touch with universities and educational institutions, which Susanne had previously worked extensively with.
“My motivation for being a mentor for SYQLE was that the mission to empower people to make better choices, was a cause I really wanted to support. With my background in management and career I felt like I could contribute positively to SYQLE’s development” (Susanne Kandrup, Partner, LimeGuild).
New perspectives on the business
The collaboration between SYQLE and Susanne Kandrup has provided the startup with unique business knowledge, which the founder, Martin H. Crillesen, has been extremely thankful for. During the collaboration, the young entrepreneur was impressed by how the experienced business owner could see his business from new perspectives, or make him consider other aspects of his business concept. SYQLE and Susanne found a structure for their monthly meetings, where Susanne could efficiently contribute to developing effective plans of action and provide necessary crucial insights.
“Susanne has given me a lot of inspiration as a mentor. She had the perfect professional profile, and could fully understand the barriers I am facing in approaching the educational sector. This meant she was able to appreciate the progress I made – even though it would not always sound of much, she knew what it took to move things ahead in this line of business” (Martin H. Crillesen, Founder of SYQLE).
